Speed, glam, girls and show off...that is what the teenagers use their parents' cars for and with vacation approaching the scare of underage driving is only on the rise.

AHMEDABAD: Speed, glam, girls and show off...that is what the teenagers use their parents' cars for and with vacation approaching the scare of underage driving is only on the rise.
As the moon is ready to set and the roads are left empty only for dog-fights, these teenagers hit not just the city roads but also the Ahmedabad Vadodara Expressway, in cars borrowed from their parents or drivers who are to drive them around.
"Speeding is a thrill that most of my friends enjoy and what car you are driving is a style statement. We talk about latest models of cars, new launches and boast about the speed we have touched," says Hardik Varia.
The stretches where one can often find these youngsters racing are 132 Ft Ring Road, Panjrapol to IIM-A crossroad and Shivranjani till Judges Bungalow. "We generally race at the speed of 120 km/hr to 140 km/hr. These streets are deserted in the night but still there is some traffic. Our favourite is the Expressway, as the road is absolutely smooth, with no traffic and speed there can touch around 180 km/hr, depending on your car," said one of the teenagers who often accompanies his friends on the Expressway.
Banging one's car or speeding are things that these teenagers do not mind flaunting even on the internet. One such Orkut profile has the number of the car with its pictures, right after the accident.
"The biggest fun is the kind of bribes that my friends give to their drivers, whom their parents have sent to drive them around. The bribes range from heavy tips for smoking cigarettes in place of bidis, evenings off and even sponsored outing with their families," says Varia.
